MOGADISHU (SD) – Colonel Yasin Abdullahi Mohamud has today taken charge at Somalia’s national intelligence and security agency (NISA) hours after President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo appointed him to lead the agency. In a brief statement, NISA announced that Mohamud had assumed office as an acting. “The new HSNQ Interim Commander, Colonel Yasin Abdullahi Mohamud, took office at the National Security and Intelligence Command,” NISA said. Mohamud, who was the head of the Benadir Regional Intelligence Service was appointed last night to replace Fahad Yasin to the lead the agency, according to Villa Somalia. Two days ago, Somali prime minister, Mohamed Hussein Roble suspended Fahad and appointed General Bashir Jama Gobe to lead the agency as an acting. In another statement issued on Tuesday, Roble directed Gobe to report to work and asked NISA staff to work with him. “The prime minister also instructs interim director general of NISA, brigadier general Bashir Mohamed Jama to immediately start his duty,” the statement reads in part. It was not immediately clear if General Gobe made his way into intelligence headquarters in downtown Mogadishu. According to sources, pro-Farmaajo have been deployed at the headquarters of the agency with most of the roads leading to the NISA headquarters cordoned off.
